Purity is the basis of peace and happiness

Baba says, “Purity is the basis of peace and happiness.”

The specialty of Brahmins is purity. To be a Brahmin means to be a pure soul and the barometer for measuring the extent to which I have imbibed purity is the extent to which I experience of peace and happiness in my life. In fact it is said that purity is the birthplace or the mother of peace and happiness. If there is purity, it is not possible for peace and happiness to be missing. “Check yourself on this basis“, teaches Baba.

The sign of having purity in my thoughts is that my mind will constantly experience being an embodiment of peace and happiness. If my mind has waste thoughts, then instead of peace, there is upheaval. Because of the many questions of ‘Why?, what?, how?”, I don’t become able to experience the stage of being an embodiment of happiness. Instead, I keep getting sucked into the quicksand of the questions and my need to get to the answer increases. I keep trying to analyze and solve issues: ‘This shouldn’t happen! that should happen! This should be like this, and that should be like that!” Therefore, where there is no peace, there won’t be happiness either. When my mind is full of questions, it can have no power to focus or concentrate; it’s constantly flitting from one thing to the next and so when I cannot concentrate on anything, there cannot be peace and happiness.

A Brahmin becomes an angel, a warrior does not. And only an angel can become a deity. My aim is to not just to become a deity but I raise my hand to be Lakshmi-Narayan, the most elevated deities. “This is not like going to your aunty’s home”, Baba reminds me. This requires complete purity in every aspect of my life, the definition of purity becomes very subtle. Purity no longer means just celibacy but it refers to purity at the thought level. Thoughts are the seed and when the seed is pure, there will be purity in feelings, in my vision, attitude, words, actions, relationships and connections. It is through observing this level of complete purity that Father Brahma became the #1 angel of God. He faced numerous tests along his spiritual path but he never allowed himself to get entangled in the web of wasteful questions; with the full-stop of ‘nothing new‘, he moved forward. He never allowed ill-feelings to emerge for any soul, he constantly maintained good-wishes and pure feelings for all. He thus remained safe from Maya.

The result was that he remained constantly cheerful. Indeed, the sign of constant happiness and peace is to remain constantly cheerful. The form of a very clear soul is constant cheerfulness. I never see a confused soul looking cheerful! their face would always be that of someone lost, whereas the face of a pure soul will show attainment. When I lose something, the sign of that is the questions of ‘why?’, ‘what?’, ‘how?’ etc. Similarly, anyone who loses their purity of the spiritual stage also have the same confusion of ‘why?, what?, how?’ within them. “So do you understand how you have to check yourself?”, asks Baba. “Check the purity of your mind on the basis of being an embodiment of the attainment of peace and happiness.”

Secondly, if other souls don’t experience peace and happiness through my mind, that is, if the impact of my pure thoughts does not reach others, then too, Baba says, “check the reason for that.” Generally, it’s because I see the weaknesses of others and I internalize it or let it go in my heart. Then that impurity will not allow that other soul to experience peace and happiness. There will either be wasteful or impure feelings towards them or my own mind will lack a percentage of the power of purity because of that influence. “Due to this, there will be no impact of attainment of purity on others; it would only reach you and not others.“, explains Baba. I become a light but not a searchlight. Therefore, the definition of the perfection in purity is “for oneself to be a constant embodiment of peace and happiness and also to enable others to experience the attainment of peace and happiness.” On the basis of this attainment, such pure souls, Baba explains, constantly spread the rays of peace, happiness and coolness. This is complete purity.

Lakshmi and Narayan means 16 celestial degrees pure, completely viceless and full of virtues. If I become even 14 celestial degrees pure, then I don’t experience complete peace and happiness. The very age changes from the golden to the silver age. One is satopradhan, the other is sato. Only the sun dynasty is the perfect stage, the full stage. If I am sometimes on the bed of happiness and sometimes on the bed of confusion, then that is not being complete. It signals that there is sometimes the tilak of the bindi (point) and other times, the tilak of the question or exclamation marks. ‘Tilak’ means awareness. “Constantly apply the tilak of the three dots“, says Baba. “The tilak of the three dots is the complete stage.
