Make every word an elevated version

Baba says, “A great soul is one whose every word is an elevated version.

When asked, everyone wants to go into the first division but then there is a difference between the aim and the qualifications. There are two main reasons for this, notes Baba. Firstly, the power of thought, the most elevated power, is not constantly used accurately for the self or for service. The second reason is a lack of using the power of speech (words) accurately and powerfully. The reason for this weakness is that I don’t pay attention and I don’t pay attention because I don’t realize the value of these treasures. I don’t realize the value because I am not a constant embodiment of the awareness of who I really am and what I am becoming. As is my awareness so will I think, speak and act accordingly.

I am a child of God, the Highest-on-High. I am becoming the most elevated human being. When this is my awareness, I develop spiritual royalty. The words of souls with spiritual royalty are like elevated versions. Their words are golden versions, and those who hear these words claim a right to the golden age. Each word is as valuable as a jewel; their words are not those which cause sorrow, that make someone fall or make them into stone; they are not even ordinary or wasteful words, but words that are powerful and loving. The words spoken throughout the day are so elevated that one could actually remember how many words I spoke that day and how I spoke them. Instead of speaking 50 words to give the detail of something, I simply use 10 words and give the essence. I reduce the quantity and create quality. “A great soul is one who speaks less, speaks softly and speaks sweetly“, says Baba.

Those who speak wastefully speak a lot“, points out Baba. I might control myself out of compulsion based on who is around me but inside it is as though I am ready to explode. Wasteful words cause me to deplete two of my greatest treasures- my energy and time. This is because the habit I have is that I would make a small thing into something very big and narrate it to everyone as if it is a story. It’s like how people narrate the Ramayana and Mahabharata with interest- they speak with a lot of interest and create interest in others as well. “But what is the result of the Ramayana or the Mahabharata?“, asks Baba. Rama went into exile and a battle took place between the Pandavas and the Kauravas! They show this in a form of a story; there is no essence in it, just the music is nice. But people listen to it and shed tears. Similarly, those who speak of wasteful things are weak souls who quickly make friends with others who enjoy listening to these kinds of things. So from the outside it looks like they have a big and powerful gathering but it is simply quantity, points out Baba, it is a gathering of souls influenced by Maya.

In addition to this gathering of news from here and there and narrating it as a story to others, there are other forms of wasteful and ordinary words one engages in. There is jokes and laughter beyond a limit. There are taunting words. There are words that describe weaknesses of others. Then there are words that are not yuktiyukt, so words that aren’t appropriate to the time, or context. “BapDada counts all these types of words as wasteful and ordinary words.“, explains Baba. Laughing and joking in which there is spirituality is good i.e. if those I laughed and joked with benefitted, then it is good. It is good to be entertaining but only when appropriate to the person, time, gathering, place and atmosphere. If even one of these is not right, then that entertainment is counted in the line of wasteful, explains Baba. The certificate I would receive would be that I make everyone laugh a lot but that I speak too much. “So stay within the limits of time“, cautions Baba. “This is what is called being Maryada Purushottam (following the highest code of conduct).

Let your words be such that those who hear them would want to hear more“, teaches Baba. Such words, He explains, are what are called as the invaluable, elevated versions. Elevated version are never many. If I continue to speak whenever I want, then those are not called elevated versions. “You are children of the Satguru, you are master satgurus, and so your words are not just words, but elevated versions.“, says Baba.

Speech has an effect on the mind too. The mind pulls speech (words) to itself. Words have a connection to the self as well as to others. While I make a program for remembrance, I often forget to pay equal attention to my words. So, underline this, says Baba.
