Don’t suppress your mind, make it positive

Baba says, “You have not suppressed your mind, but you have made it positive.

People of the world say that it is very difficult, if not impossible to concentrate their mind. “For you, it is a matter of a second, isn’t it?“, asks Baba. All I have to do is say “Baba” and my mind reaches its destination. So, for me, it is a second and for them, it is impossible, there is so much difference! They have to labor, I don’t…or do I? A person wanders until they find their destination. It’s the same with the mind. Until it has found its destination, it keeps on wandering. But having found the Father, I have found my destination, there is no one else and nothing else. No more questions left unanswered, no fears or anxieties. And so, I no longer have to labor, I have reached my destination.

Whether I can remain stable at the destination depends on my relationship with the Father. To simply say: “I am Baba’s child anyway..” and then live life my way, on my own terms doesn’t work. I have to truly, deeply believe that God is my Father and make myself belong to Him as His child. If someone were a stranger or a distant relative, then I would find it hard if not impossible to remember them with love and that too, constantly! But here, “He is your Father after all, is He not? He is not the Father of anyone else!“, points out Baba. It is never difficult to remember someone that belongs to me. I remember my Father with a right! I don’t think of Him as God, that He is the Highest-on-High, that He is unattainable, or as bright as a thousand suns etc. I remember Him with love as my Father, I remember with the right that everything belongs to me.

While doing any work, even though my hands might be busy, my intellect should remain stable – remembering the Father or churning a point of knowledge. So check, says Baba, where your intellect is going. Often, even against my conscious wish, the intellect is going in many different directions, not just in one. “The mind and intellect have a habit of spinning“, points out Baba. “Whether you spin the discus of knowledge or you spin the discus of waste, there is definitely some spinning going on. When you spin the discus of self-realization, all other spinning ends.” Also, service is a very good means to remain busy, He teaches. “The busier you keep yourself, the safer you remain from wasteful and negative thinking. Whether you serve with your thoughts, words or deeds, definitely keep your intellect busy.”, He says. Creating a timetable for the mind is a great way to remain busy. The more important a person is, the more they take care to fix a timetable accordingly. It is hard to get their time. In the same way, “you are the greatest people“, Baba reminds me. “Even the deities are not as elevated as Brahmins and so make a timetable for yourself, don’t waste your time and thoughts.”

On the path of devotion too, they ensure they use their mind for something good. They say: The limitless mantra should constantly resonate, and so they make so much effort to listen to and to retain the limitless mantra. “You don’t have to make any such effort!“, Baba points out. Having found the Father, I have found everything. The Fortune-Maker is my Father, He belongs to me, what more is there to want or need! So, in my case, the limitless songs of happiness play constantly and automatically, they never end. “The limitless song does play constantly, doesn’t it? or do you have to play it?“, asks Baba. “What other work do you have? Sing and dance! After all, what is having yoga? It’s just dancing in happiness, isn’t it? You sing the Father’s praise, you dance in happiness; what else do you do? Only in this is there service, only in this is there yoga, only in this is there knowledge and dharna.

Sing and dance and eat Brahma Bhojan. When you have offered bhog, it becomes Brahma bhojan. If I eat without offering bhog and without remembrance, then it is just ordinary food, there won’t be enough strength received. Your stomach will become full through that, but the soul won’t receive any power. “So all you have to do is eat, sing and dance!“, says Baba, you have been liberated from making effort. Otherwise, people in the world have to make so much effort: they do pranayama (breathing exercises), they continue to look at the one idol, they stop their mind. They are made to make so much effort. All I did on the other hand, was simply direct my mind to the Father, that’s all! I made my mind busy in that. I made my mind pure, I did not suppress it. Now, having made the Father my world, my mind only has elevated thoughts and therefore is a pure mind. The wandering of the mind has stopped.

If even after having found the destination, someone were to continue to wander, it would be said that their brain is not okay. In your case, Baba says, your brain has become broad and unlimited. You have become far-sighted and broad-minded. Your intellect has become so unlimited that I know the three aspects of time: the beginning, middle and end and the past, present and future. So always remember this, He says: You are fortunate. Never become weak. Become one who performs wonders. You remained weak for half a cycle, why should you remain weak now? Whatever thoughts you have, words you speak and actions you perform, check that they are a wonder and not a weakness. Let wonders be experienced through every thought and word.
