Baba says, “To take an oath for purity is true Raksha Bandhan.“
You children are the greatest of all souls in the whole cycle, Baba tells me daily. The main basis of becoming the greatest of all is purity. You have made a vow of purity as soon as you became a Brahmin, He reminds me. To make a vow is to have a determined thought and to have a determined thought means to transform my attitude. A firm vow changes my attitude. This is why people on the path of devotion make a vow and keep a fast. To make a vow means to have a certain thought in my mind and to keep a fast means to take physical precautions, whether with my food and drink or in my activity and behavior. The aim of both is to change my attitude through a vow. “All of you also made a vow for purity and made your attitude elevated.”, explains Baba. “With the attitude of all souls being brothers, that is, with the attitude of brotherhood, you Brahmins became great souls. Have you made this vow firm?“, He asks.
The meaning of Brahmin life is to be a pure soul and this purity is the foundation of Brahmin life. To keep this foundation constantly unshakeable and immovable is to attain the happiness of Brahmin life. Sometimes, I feel that I don’t experience as much supersensuous joy and power as I should. The reason for this, Baba teaches, is that the foundation of purity is weak. Purity doesn’t just mean celibacy although that is foundational. The vow of celibacy is an elevated vow because the great souls of today don’t just consider the vow of celibacy to be difficult but they consider it to be impossible. I, on the other hand, have made this impossible possible with my determined thought, and I have followed it easily. “When you have imbibed this main aspect in your life and have easily made the impossible possible, then what is so difficult about imbibing all types of purity?“, asks Baba. This is not a question of a lack of knowledge of what is purity and what is impurity, observes Baba. Every child is knowledgeable in the subject of purity but you become careless in just one thing, He explains. And that one thing is – transforming myself from wasteful thinking, seeing, speaking and doing by putting a full-stop in a second. I even understand that this weakness brings about a difference in the level of the happiness I experience, in my becoming an embodiment of power and in becoming similar to the Father. On seeing myself, I think: “yes, I understand this, it’s fine, I will change eventually” and on seeing others, I think: “Can this too happen?!”, “How can it be like this!?” To put a full-stop is to put a dot and that is only possible when I have the awareness of the Father, the Dot and of the soul being a dot. This awareness gives me the power to put a full-stop, that is, to put a dot.
At that time, I even think to myself: I have to become soul-conscious but because I lack power, instead of me seeing souls, Maya makes other people and things repeatedly appear in front of me. Through this the soul becomes hidden and the person or the thing appears in front of me again and again. And so Baba says repeatedly, “Children, remain bodiless, that is, have the faith that you are souls and consider yourselves to be separate from your sense organs.” This only comes from practice over a long period of time. If I don’t practice and then suddenly try to become bodiless or soul- conscious when the situation arises, I won’t be able to do it and Maya will defeat me. Then I say things like: “I have to die all the time. I have to change all the time. I have to tolerate all the time.” However, points out Baba, this dying is not really dying but it is claiming your self-sovereignty in heaven. At the time I get caught up in: “But I am not wrong, they are wrong, so why do I have to change?” Don’t get caught up in who is wrong, explains Baba. In spiritual language, the word ‘change’ means to move forward. Don’t take this as having to change yourself but take it as “I have to make progress.” It is not changing in the wrong way but rather it is changing in the right way. “Build within yourself this power so that you can easily transform yourself“, says Baba.
The meaning of purity therefore is to imbibe at every moment the importance of the three dots in your thoughts, words, deeds, connections and relations, says Baba. When any situation comes, first offer yourself by putting a full-stop in a second. “I have to change.” Those who offer themselves in this way receive the blessings in three ways. Firstly, you receive blessings from yourself: you experience happiness. Secondly, from the Father and thirdly, from the Brahmins family. So does this mean to die or to attain?, asks Baba. Increase your efforts of putting a full-stop and with this controlling power, bring about transformation at a fast speed. Don’t bring about carelessness and allow your thoughts to be wasted, rather, transform the carelessness and become alert.
