A charitable soul

Baba says, “To transform every soul with your merciful form and drishti is to be a charitable soul.”

Well known souls from a good clan in worldly life always have the aim in their life to make donations and perform charity. “All of you are from the greatest and the most clan of all. So what is your aim? You are full of treasures, what do you plan to do with them?“, asks the Father. Constantly be a great donor, He teaches. Constantly be a charitable soul.

Charity does not just refer to donating physical things- many people in the world do that. The treasures I receive from the Father are different. If I have a thought that is influenced by any vice, “what would that be called?“, asks Baba. That would be sin, not charity. To be a charitable soul in Baba’s world means to be charitable in thoughts, words and in deeds. “When you have become a charitable soul, there can be no name or trace of sin“, He explains. In the world, I might make big donations but still live a sinful life. Indeed, many in the world try to neutralize the impact of their sin by making donations. But that’s not what Baba expects from His children; here, He says, there is no room for even a trace of sin even in my thoughts, let alone in deeds. “Therefore, always remain aware that all of you Brahmin souls are constantly charitable souls.”, He teaches. That’s the definition of being a Brahmin soul, of being a child of God.

To have elevated good wishes and elevated feelings for any soul is the greatest charity. “No matter what any other soul may be like, whether that soul is opposing you or is loving to you, the charity of a charitable soul is to transform the soul who is opposing you with the charitable treasures of elevated feelings.“, teaches Baba. To carry out a task of enabling a soul who lacks something to attain that thing- this, is charity. For example, when a soul opposes me, then I would see that soul as someone that is deprived of the power to tolerate. Then, by offering my good wishes and elevated thoughts, I would co-operate in making that soul attain the power of tolerance. This becomes an act of charity for that soul.

A charitable soul constantly considers the self to be a bestower, a child of the Bestower. I remain beyond any desire of temporary attainment from any soul and even beyond taking anything from anyone. I don’t have limited desires such as: When he/she gives something, I too will give. When they do something, I too will do something. Because of being a child of the Bestower, I would be a charitable soul who gives everyone love, co-operation and power. As a charitable soul, I would never have the desire for praise for the charity I perform because I know that to accept limited praise is to remain deprived of attainment for all time. This is why in giving, a charitable soul, Baba explains, is always like an ocean. A charitable soul would give others the experience of happiness, the Father’s love, supersensuous joy and a spiritual life full of bliss through their every word. My every word would be the nourishment of happiness to that soul. My every deed would be such that it enables all souls to receive co-operation and fly ahead, says Baba.

So, constantly be such elevated souls, that is, become the practical form of the elevated Brahmin life.”, teaches Baba. “Be the charitable souls of the pure household, for only with the influence of such charitable souls will the name and trace of sin end.
