Always remember your surname

Baba says, “Always remember your surname is Brahma Kumars and Kumaris and that you are Godly children.”

The Brahmin birth is the birth of dying alive. Previously, I identified as roles, as relationships, as nationality or religion, as a job title or social status and a whole host of other bodily things. Now, I have died alive to that old life and have taken a new birth; I now answer to a new name- child of God. Incorporeal God adopted me through Brahma– it was through the mouth of Brahma that He spoke to me and called me His child. I am therefore a mouth-born progeny of Brahma, that is, I am a Brahma Kumar or Brahma Kumari. This is what I write as my surname. This is how I introduce myself- as a Brahma Kumar or Kumari. This is the first stamp of this life of “dying-alive”- that of being an elevated Brahmin.

A child follows in the footsteps of its father; it obeys the father’s directions. As a Brahma Kumar or Brahma Kumari, my duty therefore is to follow in the footsteps of Brahma. To follow the father does not simply mean to become a Godly server; rather, it means that I follow the father at every step and in every thought. “Are you following the father in this way?“, asks Baba. Just as the father constantly has Godly sanskars, a divine nature, a divine attitude and spiritual vision, in the same way, has your attitude, vision, nature and sanskars become the same? Have you made your face one with such a Godly character? A face through which the virtues and types of activities of the Father are revealed are said to be that of one who follows the father. Just as you sing the praise of the Father and speak of his activities, have you yourself also imbibed all those virtues? Have you made your every deed a divine activity? Do you perform every deed while in remembrance, that is, as a karma yogi? A karma yogi’s every deed would be yogyukt (performed in remembrance), yuktiyukt (performed with appropriateness) and shaktiyukt (filled with power).

When asked what it is that I study as a Brahma Kumar or Brahma Kumari, I say with intoxication that I am studying Raja Yoga, that it is the most elevated of all yogas and that I attain a kingdom through it. That it is the yoga through which I become a king of kings. “So just as you speak of the most elevated yoga, you should also have the most elevated life, should you not?“, asks Baba. First of all, I have to become the king of my physical and subtle organs, that is, of my inner kingdom, now. If I am king of my own kingdom now, I can become a king of the world in the future. To be a Raja Yogi means to be one who rules a kingdom now. The inculcation for ruling for half a cycle takes place in a practical way at this time. “Are you able to stop your thoughts the moment you issue an order for them to stop? When you give a direction to your intellect to stabilize in pure thoughts or in the avyakt stage or the seed stage, are you able to stabilize your intellect? Have you become such kings?” Those who are such Raja Yogis, Baba explains, are called those who are following the father.

As is the father, so should be the children. Does the father have wasteful thoughts or can he create weak thoughts? If the father does not have these thoughts, then why should Brahmins?, asks Baba. The father demonstrated remaining constantly in an unshakeable, immovable and constant stage even in the corporeal, while facing all types of opposition, persecution and crises. No matter what someone was like, Father Brahma never lost his peace; he always maintained his good wishes and pure feelings for them. So, what is the duty of worthy children?, asks Baba. It is to follow the father.

Sometimes, body consciousness takes over completely and then children think that they belong only to the one Father instead of both. They think that they have a ‘direct’ connection with the Incorporeal. They think: “The corporeal one also attained everything from the Incorporeal, and so I can do the same. What is the need to follow the corporeal one?” By trying this method, Baba warns, you deprive yourselves of all attainment. It’s amusing, He observes, that you call yourselves Brahma Kumars and Kumaris and yet you only have a connection with Father Shiva! The surname is: Brahma Kumars and Kumaris who belong to the clan of Shiva, and so you have a relationship with both Fathers. I transform through the power of the love of the Mother and Father, through belonging to the Mother and Father. Incorporeal Godfather Shiva is my Mother only through Brahma, He can give me my inheritance only through Brahma because He can only teach me the knowledge, speak to me, listen to me, sustain me, care for me, guide me practically, only through Brahma. And so in this way, both are my Fathers. Without access to this relationship, I cannot transform. Let me realize this.

You know that, at this time, your surname is Brahma Kumars and Kumaris and that you are Godly children, Baba teaches. Generally, everyone says that he or she is a child of God but they don’t have the relationship, I do. Keep this awareness always in an emerged state, let it not become merged, teaches the Father. When it is merged, Maya comes. When it is emerged, I am the king of the world.
