From thorns to flowers

Baba says, “This is now the confluence age when you are changing from thorns into flowers.”

Previously, my life was a jungle of thorns. Upheaval, lack of attainment, confusion of the mind, stress, fluctuation – all these are the thorns. To move away from these thorns and to instead imbibe divine virtues is to experience happiness. A bouquet too is never made of thorns, it is always made of flowers. If there were only leaves in a bouquet too, it wouldn’t be pleasing or attractive. “Now, you yourself are a bouquet of divine virtues, that is, you are in a state of happiness.“, explains Baba. Whoever comes into contact with me would experience the fragrance of divine virtues; when they see everything blooming, they would be happy and experience power. This is the greatest donation, this is true service – to bring my bouquet of flowers into blossom and enable others to experience it.

To respond to an insult with insult or to anger with more anger is to become trapped again. As soon as a situation comes, to shake and tremble rather than apply the knowledge of drama is to become trapped again. To regret the past and worry about the future is to become trapped again. To chase after artificial, temporary attainments of the world in order to feel fulfilled is to become trapped again. Indeed, this is the state of the souls in the world today which is why Baba points out that the whole world is now a jungle of thorns. He comes to transform the jungle of thorns into a garden of flowers. “Become a king flower, a spiritual rose“, He says, “so that others are attracted to your color, beauty and fragrance. Then, they too would want to become like you.

The basis of color is the subject of knowledge. The more I become an embodiment of knowledge, the more attractive my color will be. When I look at physical flowers too, although there are various flowers of many colors, from a distance, some colors attract more than others. As soon as I see it, the words that come out are: “How beautiful this flower is!” and my heart’s desire will be to constantly keep looking at it. In the same way, flowers that are colored with the color of knowledge will also be very attractive. Similarly, the basis of beauty and fragrance is being an embodiment of remembrance and divine virtues. If there is just color but no beauty, then the flower isn’t attractive. If there is color and beauty but no fragrance, then too the flower isn’t as attractive. It is said: “this feels artificial, this is real”. Flowers with just beauty and color are used more for decoration, whereas people would keep fragrant flowers close to themselves. Fragrant flowers are automatically and constantly embodiments of service. “Therefore“, says Baba, “ask yourself: Which flower am I? No matter where I am, does my being serve naturally and automatically? Have I become instrumental in creating a spiritual atmosphere? Does your fragrance spread when you come close or does it spread from a distance?

If I simply attend class each day and listen to the knowledge but don’t actually embody what I hear, then I will just become a decoration, that is, my stage will be that of a subject in the divine kingdom. “Sure, you have become flowers in Allah’s garden but check, which type of flower!“, teaches Baba. There is only one garden, one Master of the Garden but a variety of flowers. “You can become whatever kind of flower you want by making effort.“, points out Baba. If I want to be a master of heaven, then I have to make effort at that level, that is, I have to actually embody every point of the knowledge I receive. I embody knowledge by actually using it in my life, practically. The more I use something, the more I become an expert at it, the more it becomes natural to me. But if all I do is listen but don’t apply, then that is being a ‘gyani bhagat’, says Baba. “Are you those who have a right to the kingdom or those who will simply observe and admire those who rule?“, He asks.

Nowadays, even doctors tell people to go for walks in the parks. My brothers and sisters are still stuck in the jungle of thorns; they need to be able to walk in a garden full of blooms in order to feel rejuvenated. They don’t need to see more fear, more worry and anxiety, more stress and upheaval. What they need to see is peace in the midst of a storm, they need to see me able to keep a good attitude despite the opposition, they need to see me enjoy my life, remain full of zeal and enthusiasm despite the circumstance. This ‘blooming‘ will make others powerful and also happy, explains Baba. As a child of God, to be everhealthy, everwealthy and everhappy is my birthright. It is when I claim this birthright, when I actually live a victorious life that others feel inspired to belong to the Father so that they too can claim their birthright. “Do you hear the cries of your brother souls?“, asks Baba, “they are your family.

The Father has so much love for the children who have become thorns in the iron age that He comes to change them into fragrant flowers. “Tell everyone to consider themselves to be souls and remember the Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul, who makes you into flowers.“, He teaches. Words alone won’t help though, people have heard big promises for birth after birth. They will only believe me when they see what I am speaking about in me first. That is, they will believe me when I have transformed myself into a fragrant flower.
