Unity in diversity

Baba says, “Throughout the world there is disunity, but the praise of the kingdom of Rama is that of the lion and the cow drinking water together from the same pool.

The praise of Bharat is ‘Unity in diversity‘. There are so many states, each with its own unique culture and traditions, its own industry, own language. The people have their own unique features, their own dressing sense. Yet, within this diversity, there is that one thing that bonds everyone together- love for the country. There is the deep feeling that we are all children of the same motherland, and therefore, brothers and sisters. If we were to expand this thinking to include the whole world- so many billions of people with their own appearance, nationality, culture, language, education, and beliefs. And yet, there is that one thing that bonds us all together- that we are children of the same Father and therefore, brothers.

The whole world is a ‘brotherhood’ but it’s hard to see that when I see so much difference- from the way we all look and speak to the things we believe and the ways we behave. Forget the world, its hard to imagine brotherhood amongst even blood brothers within the same family these days! “The whole world is steeped in body consciousness“, explains Baba. As long as I think of myself as a body and see others as bodies, I will only see differences, I will see the things that divide us. It is only when I consider myself as a soul and see others as souls that I realize that we are all more similar than we are different. It is being the children of the same Father that binds us together but He is the Father of all souls, not bodies. In each birth, I have had a different bodily father but that’s just a role. The Father of I, the soul, is the same throughout the cycle of time. God was, is and will always be my true, eternal Father. And so the first step has to be to see myself and others as souls. I realize that we are the same size and shape, we look exactly the same, and we all have the same divine qualities and spiritual powers inherent within us; we are all originally peaceful souls, embodiments of love, mercy and happiness. This is why we all crave peace, love and happiness but because we have forgotten who we are, we all go about trying to find it in different ways with each thinking his/her way is the right way.

No one, but the Supreme Father, the Supreme Soul, can advise you how to make peace in the world.“, says Baba. Indeed, the world is without a king today but full of ‘advisers’ busy telling each other what to do. When people can’t seem to feel peaceful within themselves, when they seem to have a hard time living peacefully with their own families, how can such peaceless people bring peace in the world!? The Father comes and shows me the way: “the main method is to consider yourselves to be brothers, souls.“, He says. “You used to have spiritual love but you no longer have that. This is because you became body conscious from soul conscious. Now, become soul conscious again and see each other as a brother soul. Then, you will develop that vision of love once again.” There is difficulty when I am learning something new but this is not a new thing, the Father tells me. I used to be completely virtuous at one time and then, I lived with my brothers with great love. That was the golden and silver ages when the world was heaven and I was a deity. This is why there is great praise of heaven and the deities, He explains.

According to the time in the world cycle, the Father has come to re-establish heaven again. Transformation will take place and the world will change into heaven. The question is will I come into that heaven? That depends on whether I make the effort to become completely virtuous or satopradhan now. And whether I will make effort or not depends on whether I truly believe deeply in my bones that yes, indeed, I was a worship-worthy deity of the golden age and that with the Father’s help, I am becoming that again. Without this foundation of faith in who I am, it is hard to make progress. In heaven, there will be one kingdom, one king/queen, one language, one righteous way of living. God is teaching me that righteous way of living now, at this most auspicious confluence age. He gives me Shrimat, His elevated directions for every step, for every thought, word and action. “Only I speak the truth, therefore only follow shrimat“, He teaches. By following His elevated directions, I become elevated and righteous. It is when I mix in my own dictates or the dictates of others that I fall down.

The Father’s shrimat is: “There should only be the concern to become satopradhan. So-and-so is like this, so-and-so did that: now, forget all such things and consider yourselves to be souls.” The praise of the new world is that of the lion and the cow drinking water together from the same pool. There is unity. So to be a resident of that world requires that I become someone that values unity and knows how to live in unity; not someone that sees defects in others. In heaven too there will be diversity – each one will have their own specialties, their own ideas, their own creativity but there won’t be disunity as a result of it; people will naturally respect each other and know how to enjoy each other and their gifts. There won’t be jealousy, competition or fault-finding. In other words, there won’t be body consciousness. It is only by becoming body conscious that I see defects in others. When I see others as souls, as my brothers, Baba explains, I will only see virtues. So my practice at this time should be to be soul conscious such that seeing only virtues in everyone becomes a natural sanskar, brotherhood becomes my natural attitude.

The Father has the most virtues. Therefore, imbibe all the virtues from the Father and renounce all other things.“, He teaches. He is my reference. He says: Become as virtuous as Me. Wow, God is making me like Him! by giving me all He has, but how much I receive depends on how good of a student I am. Will I claim an inheritance of pennies or the sovereignty of the whole world is up to me.
