Baba says, “The proof of having accurate remembrance is to become an embodiment of power.”
I was a master of heaven, of the land of peace, happiness and prosperity, when I remembered who I am. Then, along the course of my journey around the cycle, I forgot who I am and started to think of myself as all the wrong things- a name, a status, a position, a title, a relationship, a role etc. and started to behave in that manner. I became fearful of losing that which I thought defined me, I became competitive, resorted to any means to defend that who I thought I am. Naturally, I went from being the master of the land of peace, and happiness to being the master of the land of fear, peacelessness and sorrow. I went from being the master of heaven to being the master of hell. The Father comes and reminds me of who I am and Whose I am and tells me: “Now, remember.” I lost everything when I forgot; the way to reclaim everything is to remember.
But what does it mean to remember?
Often I think: “I am a soul, I am a child of God…”, “I am a peaceful soul, I am a pure soul…”etc. but these thoughts remain at the thought level, they don’t actually become an awareness. To remember means not just to think the right thoughts but I actually need to embody those thoughts, the thought must become my awareness. Just as how the wrong thoughts have become my natural awareness due to practice over half a cycle- I don’t have to be reminded of my profession or of my job title or of my social status or of my nationality. They have become my natural awareness; I identify as those things and respond to them. In the same way, I now have to make the right thoughts my natural awareness. But the difference is: I only have a short time to make this shift. I had half a cycle to shift from right to wrong, I have to shift from wrong to right in this one short birth. This is why I need God’s help; when I take one step of courage, God matches it with a thousand steps of His own. In other words, He matches my tiny will power with His enormous will, He sees my determination and offers His tremendous help to get me across to the other side.
This is why this time in the cycle is called the most auspicious confluence age- because God comes to this physical plane and enables souls to reclaim their true identity by making them belong to Him– practically. He adopts me as His own child, loves me, teaches me and guides me- practically. However, God is incorporeal and so He needs the support of a body to perform His duties, practically. It makes sense that He would take the support of the body of the most experienced soul, who has been around the whole cycle from the very beginning, who was once the purest and is now most degraded. God therefore takes the support of the body of the Krishna soul when he is in the last phase of his final birth. He names the soul ‘Brahma‘. It is through his mouth that God speaks to me, teaches me. It is through his eyes that He sees me, through his ears that He hears me. In other words, God adopts me through Brahma and sustains me through him. So to say something like: “I have a direct connection with ShivBaba”, is to deceive myself because I cannot have a ‘connection’ with ShivBaba other than through Brahma. Not just that but as Brahma transforms back into Sri Krishna, his life becomes a powerful example for me to follow. Being the oldest soul, Brahma has had to rectify every flaw there is, every wrong sanskar there is, every bias, every stronghold, and every prejudice. His transformation becomes a ‘how to’ manual for me to refer to and follow.
“You called out to me: O Purifier, come and make us impure ones pure.“, He reminds me. “Now, O you children, O you souls, remember your Father and you will become pure from impure.” When I remember the Father, I become aware of His qualities and as His child, I become aware that these are also my qualities. The more I remain in this awareness, the more the qualities emerge and reflect in my words and actions. “Unless you are an embodiment of remembrance, you cannot have power because awareness brings power. An embodiment of remembrance is an embodiment of power.”, explains Baba. I might think “I am a peaceful soul, I am a peaceful soul…” all day long but unless I actually experience this truth about myself, my words and actions won’t reflect it. The moment someone insults me or the moment someone does something wrong, I will lose all my peace and become angry, irritated, frustrated etc. This is because there is no power, it’s just thoughts. “An experienced image can never be deceived by Maya or experience any sorrow. The games of Maya or the games that you play with yourself are because of the lack of being an embodiment of experience.“, He explains.
In today’s world too, the majority of souls have become tired of seeing and hearing and wish to have some attainment through an experience. “You have to become those who sustain others with your powers.“, teaches Baba. However, I can only do that when I myself become an embodiment of power and I become an embodiment of power when I have become an embodiment of awareness. I become aware when I have an experience. I understand the knowledge but have I become the embodiment of every point? Have I churned it and made it part of my blood? One is to understand and another is to experience. I might speak at length about peace while being peaceless inside. I might explain the drama to others while my legs tremble and eyes well up when faced by the slightest situation. “There have continued to be many speakers since the copper age who have continued to give many speeches.”, says Baba. “But to become an embodiment of experience is to be an enlightened soul.” Similarly, many sit for yoga but the experience of yoga means to be an embodiment of power, and an embodiment of power is recognized by being able to invoke a particular power that is needed at that time and becoming victorious. In fact, this is the difference between being an emperor and a subject. An emperor has embodied every point such that it is now a weapon that he uses at the right time to gain victory. A subject is someone who has understood but hasn’t embodied the point and so while they ‘remember’, the point has not become a weapon to use and so they become defeated. When faced with an insult, they may invoke the power of tolerance but it hasn’t been developed and so they end up using the power to oppose instead and lose. Then I say things that seal the fact that I am powerless: “I didn’t mean to do/say this but it just happened…”.
This is Raja Yoga (yoga to become kings), not Praja Yoga (yoga to become subjects), says Baba. “To increase your power of transformation, increase your awareness by increasing your experience. You are knowledge-full, now also become powerful in the speed of a second.“, He teaches. To think thoughts such as: “We are doing it, it will happen, we will do it….” etc. is to give myself a pillow and go to rest. This is not the time to rest in the cycle, this is the time to finally wake up and get moving! Any paper that comes my way will be that of a second. In that second, I have to be able to respond accurately to become victorious. Accurate response is based upon accurate remembrance.
