You are world servants

Baba says, “You world servants, you true server children also cannot remember anything except the Father and service.

Just as the Father is the World Servant, so too are His children. But what is the definition of a world servant? What are the qualifications? What is the aim of a world servant and what are the attainments?

The aim of a world server, that is, of a serviceable soul, is to make the world complete and happy through their service. How? By giving whatever the world lacks- Godly happiness, peace, the wealth of knowledge, all the powers- and thus, making all the souls, who are beggars, into those who have all rights. A world servant is able to do this because they always look at the world, at each soul, with the vision of benevolence and mercy. Because of these qualities they have the constant aim to definitely transform the world. This is their one deep concern day and night.

In terms of qualifications to serve this most elevated aim, a world servant would use their every second, thought, word, deed, relationship and connection for service. They are true servers, constant servers and so they don’t fix a special time for doing service; they would not be servers for 4 or 6 hours every day. They serve naturally, constantly and tirelessly at every step. Service is merged in everything they do– in the way they look at things, in the way they conduct themselves, in the way they eat and drink. They would be constantly busy in serving through their very being- through their awareness, attitude, vision and deeds.

  1. Through their awareness, they would make other souls embodiments of power. When I remain constantly and naturally in the awareness of being a world servant, then when someone makes a mistake, I don’t become angry. When someone is being a bit slow, I don’t become impatient and frustrated. I am quick to involve others in service tasks and enable them to gain confidence; I am not territorial about an area of service as ‘mine’. I am quick to praise others for their efforts, tolerant when they slip up.
  2. Through their attitude, they would make the atmosphere pure and powerful. My awareness affects my attitude, and my attitude affects the atmosphere. No matter what the other soul may be like, I always hold a positive attitude by not allowing their defects to take root in my heart. Baba says, “Learn the art of seeing but not seeing and hearing but not hearing.” What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong, but the trick is to not allow the wrong to take root in my heart because if I do, it corrupts my attitude towards the other soul. Sometimes, someone tells me something about someone else and I allow that information to corrupt my attitude about the one I was told about. Baba says, this is not what a world servant would do. When I remember who I am, then I hear but I don’t hear. I don’t take the law into my own hands; I realize that my duty is to maintain good wishes and pure feelings toward the self and all souls. To correct someone’s defects is not my responsibility, it is God’s. He is the Father and Teacher.
  3. Through their vision, they would grant souls visions of the self and the Father. When my attitude is pure, so is my vision. I see everyone, no matter what, just as the Father sees everyone. The Father holds each child in the highest vision, no matter how many defects they may have. He always sees each child as a ‘king child’, as the most elevated, even more elevated than the mahatmas or dharmatmas. “Even if someone has 99 defects” Baba says, “they still have one specialty- of having recognized the Father in the ordinary form.” Even when someone’s external behavior may not be good, I recognize that they love the Father just as I do, that they too are trying to be the best they can be, and that their journey is different than mine. I don’t allow my attitude and therefore my vision to see them as bad or even as ordinary. To see them that way simply demonstrates that my vision is ordinary. A world servant always sees others as equals, children of the same Father, as brothers.
  4. Through their deeds, they would become instruments to perform elevated deeds and would thereby inspire others and give them courage. God has changed me not through lecturing or pointing out my faults but through inspiring me through His own example. When I spend time with God, I cannot help but want to be like Him. I see how He carries Himself, how sweet He is with everyone no matter who they are, I see how merciful He is, how full of love He is, how patient He is and accepting He is of everyone. That unconditional acceptance that comes without judgment gives me the space, time, strength and courage to change. When I have the awareness, attitude and vision of being a world servant, then every act I perform will be filled with love and benevolence. My very being will inspire change in others, I won’t have to say much at all.

Such servers, Baba says, will renounce rest day and night in order to serve because they cannot bear to see their brothers stumble and suffer. “Are you such servers?“, He asks.

Souls who stay in contact or relationship with such server souls would, through the closeness and company of such souls, experience themselves to be sitting under a waterfall of coolness, power and peace; they would experience support and attainment from these souls.”, He teaches. “The thoughts, good wishes and pure feelings of such serviceable souls would spread in all directions like the rays of the sun.” To a world servant, the Father is their world and His task is their purpose. They cannot remember anything other than the Father and service. They dedicate themselves toward this aim and make their qualifications match their aim and thus easily reach the final destination: Mine is the One Father and none other. Through their being, they remind others of who they are and introduce them to the Father. Thus, they enable others to set forth on their journey toward the final destination as well. This, Baba explains, is the greatest service.
