Become a charitable soul

Baba says, “Connect your intellects in yoga to Me and your sins will be burnt and you will become charitable souls.

On the path of devotion, people spend hours reading the scriptures, chanting mantras, turning the beads on the rosary, singing bhajans and they donate their wealth. They think that by doing this, they will become charitable souls (punyatmas) and that they will come to God. But God says, this is a myth. These are ways that take My children away from Me. Also, He clarifies, these things do not make you a charitable soul.

Charity in God’s domain, is to liberate souls, to make them free. From what? From the vices. We didn’t even know we were being held hostage until the Father came and pulled the veil from over our eyes: “This is Ravan’s world, not your world“, He explained. You lost your world to him when you forgot who you are and Whose you are. He made you believe you are an orphan and left you to fend for yourself. He robbed you of your peace and happiness and gave you fear and anxiety in return. He took away love and gave you dependencies and lust. He took away your contentment and gave you greed. He took away your brotherhood and gave you ego to divide and isolate you. Indeed, every 5000 years, God comes and gives me the inheritance of peace and happiness. Then, midway through the cycle, Ravan curses me. This is the game.

Because this isn’t mentioned in the scriptures they read, devotees think this isn’t true; that this is all just imagination. They forget that scriptures are man-made whereas this is knowledge given directly by the Creator, the Ocean of Knowledge, to His creation. In choosing ignorance over light, they deprive themselves of the inheritance and remain imprisoned – they donate, perform rituals, undertake long and arduous pilgrimages and beg in the temples for their own birthright.

The Merciful Father says: “The greatest charity is to remember the Father and to remind others also. To open a center, to use your body, mind and wealth in serving others in charity.” The Father cannot bear to see the children struggle and stumble like orphans. I am the Father of all souls, He says, I belong to everyone; everyone from every religion has a right to this knowledge. “Now“, He says, “Tell every soul to remember the Father.” This is the greatest charitable act- to help forge a relation between souls and their Father. But if I, despite having the knowledge, despite being aware that there are many, many of my brothers stumbling in Ravan’s world, allow myself to be careless such that I am influenced by bad company, have waste thoughts, waste time thinking about others – then that is a sin. Then, Baba says, whatever charity had been performed would all be finished, and instead of being credited, your account would be debited. Further, for knowledgeable souls, the punishment is a hundredfold, He explains. Why? because I am aware.

Sometimes, we think that reminding others of the Father means to speak the knowledge, to teach the course or conduct workshops. But Baba says, “to have elevated feelings and good wishes for any soul is the greatest charity.” No matter what any other soul may be like, whether that soul opposes you or is loving to you, the charity of a charitable soul, He explains, is to transform the soul who opposes you with the charitable treasure of elevated feelings. In fact, the verry definition of charity is to carry out a task of enabling a soul who lacks something to attain that thing. So, when an opposing soul comes in front of you, always see that soul as a soul who is deprived of the power to tolerate and offer them the donation of your accumulated power of tolerance. This becomes an act of charity toward that soul.

A charitable soul, Baba explains, constantly considers themselves to be a bestower, the child of the Bestower. They remain beyond any desire for temporary attainment from any soul and even beyond taking anything from anyone. They don’t think: I will give when they give or I will talk to them when they apologize for what they did. Because of being the child of the Bestower, they will always give everyone love, co-operation and power. Then, I don’t wait around for applause either or a ‘thank you’ for my ‘act of kindness’. A charitable soul knows that to accept limited praise is to remain deprived of attainment for all time.

A charitable soul would give others the experience of happiness, the Father’s love, supersensuous joy and a spiritual life full of bliss with their every word. Their every word, Baba says, would be a nourishment of happiness. Every deed would give co-operation to others. To be such a charitable soul, He teaches, is to become the practical form of elevated Brahmin life. “Be such true charitable souls“, God teaches, “for only through the influence of such charitable souls will the name and trace of vice end and souls will be free from Ravan.
