Baba says, ‘one is to have a relationship of karma and the other is to perform actions under a bondage of karma‘. One who comes into a relationship of karma always remains light.
This divine birth is invaluable, Baba reminds me. This is the birth where I am in the company of God Himself. He is the Beloved from Whom I had been separated for a long time. This is the birth when I receive my inheritance from my Supreme Father. This is the birth when I learn the secrets of the beginning, middle and end of the cycle, where I learn about myself and my Creator. I learn the right way to live. This divine birth is not a bondage; it is a relationship.
I am not bound in any bondage of karma, but this is a birth where I become a karma yogi. To be a karma yogi means that I perform karma while being detached from the outcome of the karma. In this alokik divine birth, you Brahmin souls are independent, not dependent, Baba reminds me. It is when you change ‘Yours’ into ‘mine’ that you become dependent, He teaches. You allow a web of wasteful thoughts to enter your mind in the form of: “I have to settle my karmic accounts’, ‘this is just my past karma’ , ‘I cannot get past these sanskars’, and ‘I am stuck with this gathering.” You trap yourself in the web you create, and you then ask to be released! Baba says: You are already free, you just have to let go!
This is the divine birth where I change from a human into an angel. An angel does not look at life through the lens of ‘karmic accounts’. Yes, I am knowledgeful about the philosophy of karma, but it is not how I frame my life i.e. I am not living to settle my accounts. That is a very sad and exhausting way to live. An angel is light, happy, flying. An angel is a direct child of God and my Father’s love is exponentially more powerful than any karmic account. It fills me with all the powers I need – the power to face that bodily illness, the powers to tolerate and accommodate those sanskars…whatever. I am more focused on what I need to do now, I use my knowledge of karma to choose what kind of karma to perform now as opposed to labeling a situation or person as ‘my karma’. I also don’t get caught up in ‘why did this happen to me?’. Questions are what Maya uses to trap me in bondage because once I ask this question, I cannot rest until I find an answer, it’s like quicksand. Wisdom is when I recognize it for what it is and stray clear. There is no benefit, zero, to be had from asking this question and a 100% benefit to be had from straying clear – I conserve energy, time and most importantly, I don’t lose my link with Baba.
Two other questions that Maya uses to trap me in bondage are ‘how’ and ‘when’. Because a karma yogi performs karma as a trustee, I don’t place demands as to when I will see a particular result nor question how something will get done. I leave that to the owner of the task, God. I simply follow my directions, do what I have been asked to do. But when I forget that I am a trustee and assume ownership i.e. fall into the trap of ‘mine’, I live anxious and worried. This is bondage.
Baba says, the very first promise that all of you children made was: “Baba, this body, mind and wealth are all no longer mine, but Yours.” Since they are not your own, and they belong to Baba, how can you be bound to them?, asks Baba. It has been given to you on loan by BapDada. You are just the trustee of it all, not the owner. Now that you have died alive and your accounts of 83 births have been completed, this is your new, 84th birth. You cannot compare this birth to any other birth, He says.
But often, I bring the sanskars of ‘I and mine’ that tied me into bondage in the previous 63 births, to this Brahmin birth and make it feel the same, ordinary. “My effort, my idea, my service, my touchings, my virtues etc. are very good! My handling power is very good! My decision-making power is very good! My understanding is accurate, whereas everyone else is under a misunderstanding.” Baba asks, ‘Where did this consciousness of “mine” come from?’ This royal Maya casts a magic spell and you don’t even realize what you are saying, He points out. Now, He says, change from being one who feels bound by your karma and become a karma yogi.
When you feel that pull of ‘mine’, become bodiless in one second and come to the Bodiless One, He teaches. This requires practice over a long period of time. No matter how busy you are in service or how much your work is pulling you, at such a time, practice becoming bodiless. It shouldn’t be that, because you have a lot of service to do, you are unable to become bodiless. If you remember that it is not your service, but that the Father has given it to you, you will remain free from bondage. Practice remaining aware that you are a trustee and are free from all bondage.
In fact, says Baba, to let go and be a trustee was the special dharna of your mother Saraswati. She always had the awareness: “The One who is giving all the orders is making me move. He is the One getting everything done”. This was how she claimed a number ahead. So, follow the mother and father.
